NOPILLS nutrition software can reduce three hours of nutrition and diet research to three minutes -- or something!
How it works. . .
MOVE the mouse pointer over many elements of the program screen to activate facts and tips and RDI readouts. Figures to the right of the color bars show nutrient values for selected food item. Self-teaching mouse-pointer readouts make the help module almost redundant, although it is highly recommended reading if you are to maximize your potential with the program.
Clicking on labels and readouts activates numerous functions of the program. For example, click any nutrient label (left side) for a table of key food sources; click the Protein bar for a top-200 source of protein sources; click the RDI button (FULL software version) for a full content report on one or multiple selected foods; click the blue RDI% readout to see the world's most powerful foods (high nutrient content), but many of them are either cereals or meat items. Click the CALS readout to change your caloric target, either on the fly or specifically for yourself or a client.
To search for food items, scroll through with arrow keys or PgDn, or use F3 to speed it up, or just type A to Z to jump through the database. Any scrolling on the main grid activates all color bars and value readouts and RDI's for vitamins and minerals in typical item portions -- in grams or ounces. If you feel lost, make sure to remember that nearly all screen elements are clickable. Any short color bar indicates deficiency in the nutrient.
Boosted intakes of nutrients such as vitamin-C are simple to fulfill: find the Power Sources just by clicking on "Vitamin C".
To select a food item, double-click it, or enter an amount directly from the keyboard. Remember that 28.375 grams equals 1.0 ounce. This action adds it to your current list and shows the total; but be aware that any scrolling action sends the counter back to single-item mode. The accent button (underneath the important ESC button) acts as a total-single-total toggle. By adding multiple food items you are automatically building a printable grocery list. The grocery list can turn into a meal if you press the ENTREE button, and if you add "*12" to your meal name you now have dinner requirements for 12 (or a product ingredient list for a batch!). As you guessed, the color bars move towards the yellow target line. This target line reflects personal or clients' quotas (FULL software version). Nopills gives you the option of deleting and/or changing entrees/products in Nopepad. There also is a purge button which deletes all grid-visible food selections.
At any point in your exercise you may perfect your balance of nutrients by typing a custom portion for the currently selected food item, to build precise ingredient lists or just because some foods have excessive amounts of certain nutrients.
The default caloric target is 2400 for men, 1800 for women and 2100 but they are all changeable by clicking the calorie #. The FULL version of Nopills allows these changes to be made to vitamins and minerals as well. To change the calorie sourcing formula, just click "Calorie Sourcing", or in the FULL-version RDI report.
Numerous other features have been incorporated into NOPILLS to make its functions very fast and no-nonsense. This has entailed avoiding the Windows Command structure.
There are innumerable shortcut functions: In the FULL software version, right-click on the RDI button (not the %RDI readout) to toggle to the LISTing mode, or right-click on the LIST button for a report on all vitamins contained in a single or multiple food items. In the Personal version, click on LIST for the list and weights so far selected. In both versions, right- or left-click on GROUPS to separate the database into 22 food groups! This allows you not only to research food attributes but to avoid entire groups not wanted in Top-200 comparison tables. Strike + to browse all selected items quickly, watching the color bars compare their content! Click the Cals total near the red bar to change your calorie target. Click any nutrient label (e.g., CALS) to show the Top 200 sources, or click the %RDI readout to show a master index of 200 best Power Foods. And if Groups mode is "on", the %RDI Power Foods function only ranks one group at a time! The current group is shown above the "Groups" switch. The yellow grid, not shown above because it's "behind" the orange table, provides many other opportunities for monitoring and selecting food items based on nutrient needs. For example, you may left-click a food item inside the yellow grid, then right-click the same item to have it select it automatically in the main grid.
Click on ENTREE to edit or start a recipe, entree or product -- a group of items that will make up a grocery OR ingredient list for saving, printing or editing. Adding an asterisk ("star") and a number to your entree name multiplies the recipe/entree for a banquet or product batch complete with weights in a printable list. Click it again to save the menu; right-click it to incorporate the item into the main grid as one food item (not recommended unles you name them the entree and the food item the same, with the food item not containing the asterisk).
. . .and much more! You'll discover how quickly NOPILLS software can deliver perfect, powerful whole-food nutrition while awarding you with a powerful research tool. Nopills is under constant development.
* Personal Version does not include Nutrition Facts tables, Client Files for individual client nutrient targets, RDI comparison tables, and other functions supporting product development.
